Getting Down to Work, Sustainably. Occony’s Circular Desk

Circularity Works, So You Can Too

Have you ever thought about your work desk – the material, the usage, or the value it provides? For most people, the answer is probably no. We tend to overlook the source of our furniture, not knowing where it comes from or how it is made. As consumers across the world are becoming increasingly conscious of their environmental footprint, the act of purchasing something as simple as a desk now comes with ecological considerations. At Innovation Lighthouse, we take such factors into account when selecting furniture for our testing rooms in our Sustainable Stays project. Along with behavior-nudging technologies and other circular features, sustainability is the common thread – Occony’s circular work desk provides the perfect place for a hotel guest to get down to business, all while lowering the environmental impact.

Occony’s Circular Desk

Occony produces its furniture with key principles in mind: use of renewable energy in product creation and delivery, biodegradable materials and exclusion of toxic substances – just to name a few. These principles are reflected in the desk itself, which is made from recycled waste paper, is free from Volatile Organic Compounds and the materials used in production are Cradle2Cradle certified. Occony’s production process optimizes furniture design to reduce waste to a minimum and maximize recycling. With sustainability built into the desk, the product presents the perfect contribution to our circular hotel testing room.

For our Sustainable Stays project, the durability of our interventions is a critical feature that we test. That is why we chose the Occony circular desk, optimized to match an average hotel-interior life-cycle, guaranteeing high durability throughout. At the end of the desk’s lifecycle, up to 95% of the material can be recycled into new semi-fabrics.
